With the new episode tonight, Battlestar Wiki’s servers appear to be getting beat up like a red-eyed Cylon as of this message.

Shane, our most-technical admin, are likely reviewing the situation as I type.

Veterans of Battlestar Wiki know that this slow behavior isn’t uncommon, although we hoped that the improved servers would aid in overall performance. Apparently, we’re too frakkin’ popular sometimes.

I personally do not know the cause of the outage, if there is one; we may simply be under VERY heavy loads. I do know that the wiki and Battlestar Forum access are very slow or not possible. Be patient, drink another ambrosia and stand by for more updates.

Besides, the really cool stuff tonight won’t be on the Wiki until after we’ve all digested the new episode.

In the meantime, perhaps you should enjoy this spoiler-free review of “Sometimes a Great Notion.”

I think this one took too long to resolve. Any update? ETA? Please…

This has nothing to do with number of hits or popularity, does it? It’s been going on for weeks. In this instance the forum and wiki went down at around 4am EST on 16 Jan, long before any expected heavy loads. The Planet should have resolved this issue weeks ago.

Shane let me know that the server did appear overloaded. He has been working on resets of the databases that manage items. As I’m not an admin with insights on the technical needs of the wiki’s servers, I’d be talking out the side of my face to elaborate further. More information as we get it.

I think it’s linked to the issue Joe reported on on 9 December (http://bswiki.woo-yay.net/2008/12/09/server-diagnostics-underway/) which was never resolved. It’s gone down frequently since then for a good six hours at a time.

Fortunately we have the Propworx live auction streaming online to keep us occupied: http://www.auctionnetwork.com/
