The lockdown discussed earlier has ended.
Judging by the amount of connections, the wiki is still being visited by many thousands of users. However, given the responsiveness of the wiki, I have removed the wiki-wide editing lockdown.
So edit we all!

While the server has yet to crash and burn, we are experiencing record activity on the wiki.
I do not foresee editing being enabled until 8 A.M. to 10 A.M. ET on Monday the 19th. Even after this, I expect the wiki to be slow and may even have to protect “Crossroads, Part I” from editing even after the site-wide lockdown.
A definite decision will be made when I survey the situation Monday morning, after I wake up from my much-needed rest.
So say we all.
We are working on resolving the problem. For now… enjoy the weekend before Sunday!
After the best episode ever created…. SciFi and the Wiki died. Yes. I can’t stop the 7,000 connections the wiki. So until the horde stops trying to connect, we can’t do much. Sorry. ![]()
We are installing squid on the server for better results. The server will be off and on until we get it perfect. Thank you.
Server change was successful with minimum downtime.
To celebrate there is now a new unique Blog theme (here and on the Battlestar Wiki Blog) and a modified Wiki theme with a nice header image and features such as Social links and Language detector.
Due to the changeover in progress, we have locked the wiki (and the entire server) to prevent editing. This means that when you access the wiki, you will receive a prompt asking for a username and password.
We’ll let you know when things change.
Thank you for your patience.
Right now the Wiki is a bit slow, but still online and editable. Between working on things and keeping an eye on the process list via SSH, the additional gig of ram seems to have done the trick.
Depending on whether or not Battlestar is renewed for a 4th season, we are seriously considering about adding another server for just the mysql database; no definite decisions will be made until an announcement is made regarding that.
Call me crazy, but I just had an idea…
For those of you wanting to still edit the Wiki, per se, please submit your edits as responses to this blog entry.
When doing so, please note the article title and your username on the Wiki. When the Wiki is back online, it’d be nice to have content already created for it without having to wait any further. Cool?
Welcome to “Case Orange”, the update center for the Battlestar Wiki. This is used when the website and its server is down.
As of 3:18 PM EST on 1/22/2007, the Wiki is down since an upgrade of additional memory is required, due to the increase in visitors we are experiencing, thanks to the airing of “Rapture”. (Yes, just when you think you’re ahead, reality hits you from behind.)
More info as it becomes available.
